To accommodate and attract the senior population, many spas have developed a variety of innovative programs, therapies, and classes for both day spa and destination spa senior guests.
For All Ages
Although many spas seem to be primarily frequented by 30-year olds, a closer look at fellow guests gives a truer picture of the clientele. Many daytime hydrotherapy classes have more senior attendees than younger guests. Often, seniors may prefer scheduling their services earlier in the day and on weekdays. These are also times when services may be discounted, and special prices for seniors may be in effect.
Travel Opportunities
Seniors and Baby Boomers are typically ardent travelers. Many seniors regularly book spa visits when planning their travel itineraries. Whether whiling the hours away on a cruise ship, visiting a new town, or relaxing at a destination spa, seniors regularly book salon services, couples’ massages, and facials. Not Only in America
A recent article in Seniors World Chronicle, Digest of International News and Reports on Aging described the popularity of spas for seniors in India. The director of India’s Egmore Spa report that at least 35 percent of Gold members are 55 years old or older. With Gold memberships, members can visit the spa one day each month and partake in all services for free.
The manager of India’s Oryza spa said 90 percent of services booked for seniors are made by their children as birthday and anniversary presents. In India, both senior men and women are becoming increasingly attracted to spa services.
The Perfect Gift
Many seniors first take their first spa plunge when they’re give a spa gift, often by their children. But there’s no reason seniors can’t begin a new tradition. A couples’ massage, a mother-daughter trip, a friends’ getaway, or a destination resort mini-vacation are all good reasons to pick up on the latest trend.
