Hydrotherapy promotes well-being. Here's how to turn your bathtub into a home spa.
The Bubble Bath
Bubble baths create a luxurious sense of solace. Surrounded by a cloud of bubbles, it’s easy to put problems in perspective and let worries slip down the drain. In addition, bath products include skin softeners, detoxifiers, soothing fragrances, minerals, and herbs. My favorite products include Lavender Bath Foam from Sabon and Origins's Ginger Float Cream Bubble Bath.
Numerous products, including Kneipp’s herbal oils and tablets, contain therapeutic oils. Read the labels. Village Naturals Therapy for Aches and Pains contains eucalyptus, rose hips and chamomile to increase circulation and relax muscles. Shu Uemura’s Pleasure for the Bath Oil contains relaxing cherry blossom oils. Origin’s Shedonism Intensely Bubble Bath Serum contains an intoxicating mixture of essential oils that invoke serenity.
Minerals
The skin absorbs mineral nutrients that improve specific conditions. For thyroid disorders, T.S. Pink’s Trace Elements Bath and Spa Iodine Rose Quartz Tea Rose Breeze Salts replenish natural iodine, correcting imbalances caused by refined iodine. T.S. Pink also manufactures salts rich in zinc and boron. Sabon’s Honey Peach Mineral Powder contains foaming minerals. Fresh’s Lemon Sugar Cubes for the Bath contain lemon-scented minerals. Epsom salts are another good choice.
Dead Sea Salts
Dead sea salts detoxify the body and soothe skin irritations. Dead Sea salts were used in ancient Rome to treat arthritis, eczema, muscle pain, psoriasis, and muscle tension. Rich in magnesium, potassium, bromide, and calcium, sea salt has a lower concentration of sodium chloride than table salt. Added to the bath a teaspoon of Sabon’s Rose Salts, Aquatanica Spa’s Detoxifying Sea Salt, or Aquitanica’s Relaxing Sea Soak with Marine Nutrient Complex make the bath an indulgence. Just dim the lights, add scented candles, and relax.
